The fabulous Ty Te Cadair Tea Room has one of the most gorgeous locations in Wales. Situated right at the foot of Cadair Idris and attached to Cadair Idris Visitor Centre, it’s a pleasant 250 yard walk through the woods from the Minfordd car park, and passed by on the path up the mountain.
The menu caters for all appetites with drinks, cakes, lunches and snacks being served from 10am until 5pm. Ingredients are sourced locally wherever possible and there’s always a delicious home-made soup and a tempting array of cakes made on the premises.
Fresh coffee is served in generous cafetières and large selections of speciality teas are also available. On cold days you can warm yourself up with piping hot chocolate, and when the sun shines there are ice creams and a fridge stocked with cold drinks for thirsty walkers.
There is plenty of seating outside for groups and parties, and dogs are always welcome at the outdoor tables.
Children and adults are entertained by activities within the Visitor Centre, which houses an exhibition about the wildlife, geology and legends of Cadair Idris, with interactive games, animations and films. Fascinatingly, infrared cameras stream live footage of the rare bats in the roof of the building.
The staff are an eclectic bunch who share a love of scrumptious nutritious home cooking. They all have other work too, which means you could find your food being prepared or served by a paramedic, a fine artist, or a music, philosophy or film student!
